Throwback American Bulldogs is a collection of dogs off Scott and the finer Game American Bulldog Club (GABC)-registered bulldogs. Our dogs feature the Painter, Margentina, Tappe, Ponce, and early Kershner families of Performance American Bulldogs in their pedigrees. A well-bred Jack Osgood American Bulldog has also joined our effort.
We choose to work with these lines of Performance American Bulldogs because specimens from their families have shown the versatility, attitude, work ethic, longevity, temperament and structure we are trying to preserve.
We breed for performance through working ability and drive – pets and working companions with athletic bodies that are clean breathers with working muzzles. Males weigh 80 -100 pounds, females weigh 65 -85 pounds. We average 1 litter every 2 – 3 years.
Our dogs are safe around the family. I have young children and have no room for dangerous dogs of any kind. We feel confidence and stability around children is part of the correct bulldog temperament.
Dogsports like Shutzhund, French Ring and Mondioring can be used as an outlet for our dogs athletic prowess and to help evaluate certain bulldog drives. We do not use dogsport training to try to change the rustic quality of the breed. Sport titles are a tool and can roughly outline certain things a well-trained dog can do.
Good luck in your quest for a Performance American Bulldog. You have no doubt found hundreds of websites with large, bully dogs. The more athletic standard or Alan Scott-style, is harder to find and is not for everyone. The number of websites and American Bulldogs being bred is increasing, but is the number of quality places where you can find a dog?
Be objectionable and don’t get caught up in marketing schemes and breed fads. Study the American Bulldog breed history with a skeptical eye. The breed’s history can’t be easily summarized by a simple FAQ on a website. Be patient for a pup. Find a breeder that will work with you and maintain honest feedback with you and your new companion. Be sure the breeder has the tools or support system around them to be able to judge and evaluate the type of temperament you desire in a bulldog.
If you own or have owned dogs down from Painter, Margentina, Tappe, Ponce, Kershner, Little or Osgood American Bulldogs, contact us, we would love to hear from you. And do not hesitate to contact us in regards to dogs on this site or back in the pedigrees.
